Indian Peaks
Like great folds in the vast prairie, the Indian Peaks can be seen from over 100 miles away. Designated by Congress as a Wilderness area in 1978, the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area is one of the West's great treasures. Comprised of over 30 splendid peaks, eight of which tower over 13,000 feet, the Indian Peaks contribute greatly to the grandeur of the Continental Divide. However, deforestation, the threat of logging and mining, and recreational overuse are greatly jeopardizing the wilderness character of the Indian Peaks. Responsible and caring action, now and by future generations, will be the only way to preserve the Indian Peaks as one of America's greatest wilderness areas.
